prenatal yoga

Here at Source Yoga we are pleased to be able to offer quality classes for moms-to-be, moms, babies, and young children.

When Source Yoga opened the doors in 2005 we simultaneously started to grow a yoga community and our own families, when both studio owners each welcomed a new baby boy into their lives in 2006. Since then Source yoga has been able to partake and witness families growing and new babies coming into this world in a very special way and on an on-going basis. We are grateful to be able to offer Prenatal, Postnatal, Mom & Baby, Toddler, and Kid’s yoga classes as a way to make a difference in the lives of many families in our community. When you come to Source Yoga expect to feel nurtured, inspired, and rejuvenated.

We have an excellent educated and well trained staff offering prenatal and postnatal classes: Melissa Schussler-Paz, and Marcela Johnson.

As our classes have grown and we have begun to network with the birthing community around us we have developed a generous resource for pregnancy related issues. At the studio we have a library where you can check out books, and articles for up to two weeks at a time. We also have a prenatal board where you can find lists of doulas, midwifes in the area, childbirth classes, massage therapists, postpartum care, baby announcements from our prenatal mommas, and much more.

What to expect:

Prenatal & Postnatal classes no experience required. All classes on a drop-in basis and new students are always welcome.

Please arrive 5-10 min before class to register or pre-register ·in advance.

We provide yoga mats and additional props for your use during class free of charge. You may bring your own mat if you prefer, and a water bottle. We provide water and there is a restroom for your use. We also sell a variety of eco-friendly mats.

Prenatal classes:

When should I start prenatal yoga?
You are welcome to join as soon as you feel ready. Usually, most pregnant women feel good at the end of the first trimester and the beginning of the second. If you have had a strong yoga practice prior to pregnancy you may wish to join in the second trimester or when it becomes uncomfortable to be on your back or belly. It is strongly recommended that you join earlier in your pregnancy then later as you will receive more benefits and be able to integrate it more easily when it comes time to give birth.

What can I expect from a prenatal class?
We begin with about 5 minutes of check-in time with each pregnant woman. This creates a nice community of moms-to-be and an opportunity to make new friends. Class continues with a seated meditation with a basic breathing practice, followed by gentle warm-ups that focus on strength, stability, and connection to the breath. Standing yoga postures with variations for each stage of pregnancy, hip openers and opening of the pelvis, balance postures, followed by a cool down, deep relaxation and a closing with the sound of ‘aum’ (the word that represents to our ears that sound of the energy of the universe of which all things are manifestations) or ‘namaste’ (meaning: the light and life within me honors the light and life within you). You are encouraged to work at your own pace and connect to the stillness within and the precious baby developing inside of you.

How many usually attend the prenatal classes?
They are well attended and can range anywhere from 5-15 depending on the season as we notice pregnancy and birth comes in cycles.:)

What class card/membership should I buy if I want to come on a regular basis?
Our most popular class card is the Pre/postnatal card for 8 classes valid for 6 months. It is good for both the prenatal and postnatal classes. Some also like to take advantage of the New Member Special 2 months of unlimited classes and attended more than once a week.

What happens if I cannot attend anymore due to complications with my pregnancy?
We want you to take care of you and your baby so all you need to do is inform us via e-mail or phone call that you will not be able to attend and we will extend your card or membership as needed.
